Niranjan Mallik, the Sarpanch of Kalei Panchayat under the Bhadrak Assembly constituency, passed away following a cardiac arrest. According to sources, Mallik’s health condition suddenly deteriorated late last night while he was asleep at his residence. Family members rushed him to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital early this morning. However, doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
News of the Sarpanch’s sudden demise spread quickly across the region, plunging the panchayat into mourning. Panchayat residents gathered in large numbers to pay their last respects. Several political leaders and public representatives also visited to offer condolences and take part in the final viewing.
A Popular Leader With Media Roots
Niranjan Mallik had transitioned into politics from journalism and was widely known in the region as a familiar and approachable leader. His association with the media had helped him build strong connections with the people, earning him popularity and trust at the grassroots level.
“It is a very sad day for the zone. I am deeply heartbroken by the loss of our former Samiti Sabhya and Sarpanch, Niranjan Barik, fondly known as Nira Bhai. When we heard the news, we rushed to the hospital, but it was hard to believe that Nira Bhai had already passed away. Mallik’s untimely death has left a significant void in Kalei Panchayat’s local leadership. Residents remembered him as a dedicated public representative whose loss will be deeply felt in the community for a long time to come.
