Ruchi Foodline founder Sarat Kumar Sahoo passes away, condolences pour in
Sarat Kumar Sahoo, the visionary entrepreneur who founded Ruchi Foodline, passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a hospital. He was 75 and had been battling cancer for several years.
A pioneering figure in Odisha’s food industry, Sahoo was instrumental in transforming Ruchi Foodline into one of India’s leading packaged food brands. Under his leadership, the Ruchi brand became synonymous with quality and trust, earning a loyal customer base across the state and beyond.
What began as a modest venture Om Oil and Flour Mills, established in 1976 from a rented unit in Cuttack’s Industrial Estate grew into a household name over the decades. Today, Ruchi Foodline’s products are available through more than 18,000 retail outlets across India and exported to seven countries, reflecting Sahoo’s enduring legacy of innovation and enterprise.
Industry leaders and employees remembered Sahoo as a humble yet determined businessman who combined traditional values with modern business practices, laying the foundation for one of Odisha’s most successful FMCG enterprises.
His passing marks the end of an era for the state’s industrial community. Tributes poured in from across Odisha, with many recalling his contributions to entrepreneurship and employment generation in the region.
