The proposal is reportedly part of the efforts to secure the prestigious Blue Flag Beach certification.

The project is part of a larger push to promote eco-tourism along Odisha’s coastline and bring lesser-known beaches into the tourism spotlight.

Officials believe the Paradip–Siali belt has the potential to emerge as a major attraction if supported by modern infrastructure and environmental safeguards.

“The Paradip beach has great potential for tourism development. It is a picture-perfect white beach. Though several facilities are available to tourists at Paradip, these are not enough to attract tourists,” The Times of India quoted Meerabai Behera, district tourist officer (DTO), Jagatsinghpur.

The Blue Flag tag is a globally recognised eco-certification awarded to beaches that meet strict benchmarks for water quality, environmental management, safety standards and visitor services.

Currently, Odisha has only two Blue Flag certified beaches – Puri, and Sunapur in Ganjam district.

As per the TOI report, Behera further said, “… Large number of locals will get employment due to development of eco-tourism in Paradip. Many tourists, particularly from foreign countries, like virgin beaches like Paradip and its nearby Siali.”

Despite its natural beauty, Paradip beach has remained largely absent from mainstream tourism circuits.

At present, hundreds of locals and a handful of tourists visit Paradip and Siali beaches daily, but inadequate infrastructure continues to be a major concern for visitors.
