In a major daylight robbery, armed miscreants looted gold ornaments worth over Rs 5 crore and cash amounting to Rs 5 lakh from the Bank of Maharashtra branch at Barbil in Keonjhar district on Monday.
As per reports, as many as six armed miscreants arrived at the bank on five motorcycles. The accused reportedly entered the bank premises as customers. Subsequently, they brandished firearms and threatened bank staff at gunpoint. Within a short span of time, they managed to decamp with a large quantity of gold jewellery and cash kept inside the bank.
After executing the robbery, the miscreants fled the scene on their motorcycles, creating panic in the area. The incident triggered tension among locals, while bank operations came to a halt following the loot.

Barbil police reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an investigation into the incident. Security arrangements in the area have been tightened, and efforts are underway to trace the accused using CCTV footage and other technical evidence.
No comments from the police and bank staff about the incident could be obtained.
