Amounts ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 50 lakh were allegedly credited to accounts of villagers in Ekamania village in Odisha’s Kendrapara district. Mysteriously, the large sums of money are being credited into residents’ bank accounts from abroad.
Ananta Karan, a resident of the village, admitted that nearly Rs 50 lakh was recently credited to his account. Records suggest that Ananta Karan had previously worked in Afghanistan in 2009 and returned to the village in 2011.
Around 15 days ago, Rs 47 lakh was mysteriously credited to his account. Meanwhile, a group of youths are now visiting his home demanding 33 per cent of the amount and reportedly threatening his family with firearms.
Funds Routing From BBSR to Delhi
Not just Ananta, local sources claim that such foreign remittances are being credited to the accounts of hundreds of youths in the area every month. Preliminary discussions in the district indicate that a well-organised network may be operating in a planned manner, routing funds from Rajnagar to Bhubaneswar and even Delhi.

Authorities have warned residents to be cautious and have urged anyone facing threats or irregularities to report immediately. The police have confirmed that a full investigation will be launched if formal complaints are received, and further details will be shared once the probe progresses.
Police Assure Full Investigation
SP Siddharth Kattaria said the matter is under observation, and the authorities will act as per legal procedures.
“There is a deduction in salary for many people like me from Odisha who are all doing jobs abroad. We can apply for the refund of the deducted money after leaving the job. I was under the US Army continuously for four years. So, I had applied for the money in the Army Base, which has now been credited to my account. However, my wife was not present at our house when the money was credited,” claimed the beneficiary.
When contacted, Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria said, “We have no such report or any FIR in this regard. I came to know about it through social media posts. I can only comment on it after an enquiry. If there is any complaint, then we can find out from where he is bringing the money from.”
