The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has seized a cash amount of Rs 70 lakh from the Ernakulam –Hatia Dharti Aaba Superfast Express at Titilagarh station in Odisha’s Bolangir district.
According to reports, RPF personnel conducted a routine inspection when they discovered the huge sum stashed inside a bag in one of the train compartments.
Two individuals, identified as Prabhat Kumar Sahu and Umesh Prasad, were found in possession of the cash and were immediately detained for interrogation.
The recovery has sparked widespread speculation about the source and purpose of the large amount of money.
Authorities are also probing whether the seized cash has any links to the upcoming Nuapada by-elections. The timing of the incident has raised suspicions that the money might have been meant for election-related activities, said sources.
Officials have assured that the case will be thoroughly investigated, and strict action will be taken if any violation of election or financial laws is found.
