Puri Police on Thursday revealed that the murder of kinnar Anjali, also known as Sona, was carried out with the intention of robbery. The disclosure was made during a press meet.
According to police, the prime accused, notorious robber Krishna Kandi, attacked and killed Anjali for loot. Police conducted an encounter on Wednesday, in which Krishna sustained bullet injuries. His associate, Sanil Kandi, has been arrested in connection with the case.
Police said Krishna attempted to flee and opened fire at the police team when they tried to apprehend him. In retaliatory firing, he was injured after being shot in the leg. He was initially admitted to Pipili Hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition was serious.
As per reports, the murder took place near CIFA (Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture) on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on February 1. Krishna, a resident of Gadarupas area in Puri district, is a habitual offender with multiple snatching cases registered against him.
Police have arrested two persons so far and are continuing their investigation to trace and apprehend other associates involved in the crime.

"After examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in the nearby areas, the police were able to identify the accused persons. The main accused, Krishna Kandi, and another accused, Sanil Kandi, have been arrested. During the arrest, Krishna Kandi sustained injuries and has been shifted to a hospital for treatment. Pipili police have registered a case in connection with the incident. The other arrested accused, Sanil Kandi, will be forwarded to the court soon. Another accused is still absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. The accused had come with the intention of snatching a bag. A tussle ensued during the attempt, and in the process, the accused attacked the victim with a sharp-edged weapon," said Puri Additional SP Sachin Patel.
