A notorious dacoity gang has been busted by the Bhadareswar police in Cuttack district, leading to the arrest of as many as five members involved in a series of violent robberies.
According to police sources, the gang members would disguise themselves as pig herders and beggars during the daytime. They allegedly moved from village to village, preparing blueprints of targeted houses. At night, they executed their plans and looted cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees. If confronted, the accused reportedly attacked victims with deadly weapons, leaving them seriously injured.
The arrested accuseds have been identified as Bikash Das, Subrata Das, Chittaranjan Das, and Bichitrananda Kundu of the Derabish area, and Gopinath Das of Jajpur.
Police have seized 61 grams of gold ornaments, 386 grams of silver, four mobile phones, one shovel, and an iron rod from their possession.

Sources further revealed that multiple criminal cases are pending against the accused at various police stations across the state.
"The gang members disguised themselves as pig herders and snake charmers during the day, moving from village to village without raising suspicion. Under the guise of their occupations, they conducted reconnaissance, identifying isolated houses and those occupied by elderly residents. They carefully prepared detailed plans of their targets. At night, they carried out the burglaries, looting cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees before fleeing the scene," said Salipur SDPO Biranchi Narayan Pati.
