A fresh low-pressure system is expected to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal, bringing rain to Odisha in the last week of November, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A cyclonic circulation has developed over the central parts of the Malacca Strait in the southeast Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form on Saturday, informed Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Manorama Mohanty

“A low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22. Then it will move west, northwest direction and likely intensify into a depression around November 24. The system is likely to trigger rainfall, but for the next seven days, there are fewer chances of rainfall activities,” Mohanty said.

A possibility of a cyclone has not been predicted yet, she added.

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify further by the evening of November 24, gradually developing into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal, she added.

The depression may continue to move in the west-northwest direction during the subsequent 48 hours and is likely to intensify further over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

Due to its impact, Odisha is expected to experience rainfall from November 27. The IMD indicates that some coastal districts may receive heavy to very heavy rain during this period. This potential weather disturbance may influence the state during the last week of November.

However, the IMD has not yet predicted whether the system will intensify into a cyclonic storm.
