Rain to lash Odisha for two days from tomorrow under low-pressure influence

A well-marked low-pressure area continues to remain active over the southwest Bay of Bengal, raising the likelihood of rainfall across several parts of Odisha beginning Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to the IMD, the weather system is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall to different regions of the state under its influence. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards over the next 48 hours and may intensify further, potentially enhancing rain activity in adjoining areas.

The Met Department has also forecast thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning in at least eight districts on Monday. These include Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak. Residents in these districts have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during lightning activity.

On Tuesday, the weather conditions are expected to persist in some parts of the state. Districts such as Jajpur, Cuttack and Mayurbhanj are likely to witness rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

Authorities are closely monitoring the development of the system. The IMD has urged people, especially those in vulnerable areas, to stay updated with official advisories and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.

“Some isolated places in the state are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall on February 23. Those districts are Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha and Puri. Light to moderate foggy condition is likely to prevail at isolated places of the state in the next 48 hours,” said IMD Bhubaneswar regional director, Manorama Mohanty.
