In a symbolic gesture of tradition, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in Puri has presented one of Lord Jagannath’s Nandighosha chariot wheels to the Deulimath at Kakatpur in the district. The wheel reached Deulimath on Tuesday.

According to sources, the sacred wheel was ceremoniously taken in a grand procession accompanied by devotional sankirtan groups, drawing large crowds and great enthusiasm from devotees.
As the divine relic reached Deulimath, locals and members of the intellectual community expressed deep joy and reverence, viewing it as a spiritual honour for Kakatpur.
Meanwhile, the Astaranga Journalists’ Association has requested the temple administration to offer two more chariot wheels—one to the Malda shrine and another to the Kakatpur Mangala temple. The association stated that such gestures would further strengthen the cultural and spiritual connection between the Jagannath Temple and revered regional shrines.
The presentation of Nandighosha wheel marks another chapter in the continuing legacy of spreading the divine aura of Lord Jagannath beyond Puri, reinforcing the deep spiritual unity among Odisha’s sacred centres.
Worth mentioning, Odisha’s cultural and spiritual heritage had received a national spotlight with the proposal to install the sacred wheels of the three chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra in the Parliament complex — a move that promised to be a moment of pride for every Odia.
However, it is still not confirmed when the wheels will be transported from Puri.
If realised, the installation will not only showcase Odisha’s rich tradition of Lord Jagannath across the nation but also stand as a proud symbol of the State’s contribution to India’s cultural fabric.
The proposal was presented by SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee during Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s visit to Puri in August this year. Birla, on a tour of Odisha, had offered prayers at the 12th-century Vaishnavite shrine, where senior temple officials had facilitated his darshan of the Holy Trinity.
Following the darshan, Padhee had suggested placing the divine wheels of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra’s chariots in Parliament as a lasting emblem of Odisha’s timeless culture and spiritual heritage. It is said that Speaker Birla had warmly welcomed the idea, showing keen interest in the proposal.
