In a significant breakthrough, police arrested the prime accused in the murder of transgender person Anjali on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, near CIFA(Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture), nearly 20 days after the incident.

The main accused, identified as Chhabina Kandi of the Konark area, was apprehended late last night from a forest area under the Ramachandi police station limits. 

According to police sources, he had been hiding alone in the remote forest area to evade arrest. Acting on specific inputs, police conducted a raid and successfully nabbed him.

Earlier, two other accused in the murder case - Krishna Kandi and Sunil Kandi- had already been arrested and forwarded to court in connection with the case. With the arrest of Chhabina Kandi, all the accused persons involved in the murder have now been taken into custody.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the shocking murder was allegedly committed over a petty dispute involving just Rs 30. 

The incident had earlier created tension in the area with several transgender persons hitting the streets in Bhubaneswar demanding justice. The successful arrest of all the accused has reportedly brought some relief to the community.
