President Droupadi Murmu likely to visit Odisha in Nov, may address winter session of assembly

President DroupadiMurmu is likely to visit Odisha towards the end of November, marking her first visit to the State Assembly after assuming office, Law and Works Minister PrithvirajHarichandan informed on Monday. While a formal schedule from Rashtrapati Bhavan is awaited, officials have begun preparations, anticipating the visit.

President May Address Winter Session Of Odisha Assembly

According to Minister Harichandan, the Odisha Government had proposed that the President address the upcoming winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, and a tentative confirmation has been received.

“The details of the programme are being finalised. There is a possibility of it (President Murmu visiting Odisha). Additional information will be shared in due time,” he said.

If confirmed, this would be President Murmu’s first visit to the Assembly since becoming the Head of State. The Assembly Secretariat has started revamping and redecorating the chamber traditionally used by the President, along with other areas of the building, to welcome her.

Significance Of The Visit

Before becoming the President, DroupadiMurmu served as Minister of Commerce and Transport and MLA from Rairangpur, making her likely return to the Assembly an emotionally significant moment.

Sources reported that interior renovation work is underway to restore the chamber used during her earlier tenure as a Minister. The President’s visit would symbolically reconnect her with her early political career in Odisha, where she began her public service journey nearly two decades ago.

Last Visit In July

Although the final itinerary is yet to be issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, security agencies and local authorities have begun preparations. Her last visit to Odisha took place in July 2025, when she attended the 5th convocation of AIIMS Bhubaneswar and the 13th convocation of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack.
