Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrote a letter to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressing displeasure over the delay in approval of the NTPC project in Odisha.

The PSU has proposed to set up an additional state-of-the-art, latest environmental norms-compliant power station of 1320 MW at its existing location in Talcher.

The NTPC board on September 10 approved an investment of Rs 9,785 crores for the project.

The Union Minister said that non-clearance of such projects will send a wrong message to the investor community.

"Lack of requisite clearances for such big-ticket investments even after a lapse of more than 15 months will dampen the investment climate in Odisha and send a wrong signal to the investor community," the letter read.

He has also urged the Odisha Chief Minister to personally look into the matter.

"I take this opportunity to request you for your personal intervention for speedy approval of the project by the High Level Committee which will send the right signals about ease of doing business in the State," Dharmendra wrote.
