Bhubaneswar is facing an alarming increase in air pollution, with the air quality index (AQI) consistently in the poor range. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is deeply concerned about this trend and is actively addressing the issue. 
In response to this, the civic body has launched an ambitious tree planting initiative aimed at reducing pollution and boosting forest cover.

In an effort to mitigate the harmful effects of air pollution, BMC has set a target to plant one crore trees within this year. This large-scale afforestation project is seen as a crucial step in enhancing the city's green cover, which will not only improve air quality but also contribute to the overall environmental health of the area.

Mayor’s Call to Action

Bhubaneswar Mayor, Sulochana Das, highlighted that air pollution is a global issue affecting cities worldwide, and Odisha is no exception. She urged citizens to be more conscious of their environmental responsibilities and to actively participate in the tree plantation drive. "Plant trees to combat pollution," she said, emphasising the importance of community involvement.
