Khuntuni police carried out a major crackdown on illegal country liquor manufacturing units in the Athagarh area on Sunday, seizing a large quantity of raw materials and ready-to-sell liquor.

According to reports, illegal liquor production has been increasing in forested pockets near villages such as Dalua, Khanduali, Saraswatipur, and Magadh under the Khuntuni police station limits. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams launched raids on the illicit units operating in these areas.

During the operation, police recovered several bags of raw materials and hundreds of litres of illegally brewed country liquor stored in plastic drums inside forest areas to avoid detection. The seized liquor and materials were destroyed at the spot as per standard procedure.

A case has been registered at Khuntuni police station in connection with the illegal manufacturing and storage of country liquor. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the racket.

Earlier Illegal Liquor Raids

In a separate operation earlier, the Excise Department in Balasore seized and destroyed large quantities of illegally prepared liquor and raw materials.

The raid was conducted in the Old Balasore area by a special team of the Excise Department in coordination with the local police, following inputs about illegal liquor production and trade in the region. During the operation, officials recovered substantial quantities of illicit liquor along with materials used in its preparation, all of which were destroyed on the spot.

Authorities said such enforcement drives will continue to curb the illegal liquor trade and ensure public safety.
