In a shocking incident, a police constable was brutally assaulted in the middle of the road in broad daylight in Phulbani on Friday, leaving him critically injured. The disturbing episode reportedly took place at Jagannath Temple Square in full public view.
As per reports, Constable Manoranjan Sabat was allegedly attacked by two individuals, who kicked and punched him mercilessly, leaving him bleeding on the street. Despite the incident unfolding before several onlookers, no one intervened to stop the assault or raise an objection.
The injured constable was rushed to Berhampur hospital for treatment in a critical condition.
In response to the incident, Phulbani SDPO stated that Constable Sabat has been placed under suspension. He had reportedly come to Phulbani for personal work, and the attackers are said to be known to him personally.
Police have arrested two persons in connection with the assault and forwarded them to court, the SDPO confirmed.
"I request the Police Department to pay urgent attention to the rising crime incidents in Phulbani. If a police official can be attacked here, what will happen to the safety of common citizens?" asked Dilip Kumar, a resident of Phulbani.

"I got a phone call and came here to find him severely injured. Stern action should be taken against the persons involved in the attack. We rely on the police for our safety. However, if a police official is attacked like this in broad daylight, what will happen to us?" said Snehanjali Das, a relative of the constable.
"The constable has been suspended from February 4, and SP has served him notice in this regard. He had come to his father-in-law's house. Two local youths attacked him over an altercation on a personal issue. A case has been registered, and both the accused have been forwarded to court," said Phulbani SDPO Subhrajit Biswal.
