Pistol recovered from youth inside Odisha hospital premises

Panic gripped the medical premises under Soro police station limits in Odisha’s Balasore district after a youth was spotted with a pistol at an Aahar Centre located inside a hospital premises on Thursday.

According to sources, a young man had come to the Aahar Centre to have food when security personnel noticed that he was carrying a firearm. Sensing potential danger, the security staff alerted the employees of the Aahar Centre and attempted to seize the weapon from the youth.

However, before he could be apprehended, the youth managed to flee the spot by jumping over the boundary wall of the medical premises. The firearm was subsequently seized from the Aahar Centre.

“He was sitting and eating here. Our security guard noticed the pistol tucked inside his pants and asked him about it. However, he said that it was just a toy. When we asked him to show it, he ran away, and I snatched the pistol from him. However, he escaped,” stated an eyewitness.  

On receiving information, the Soro police reached the spot and launched a search operation to trace the absconding youth. Police are also trying to ascertain how the youth managed to enter the medical campus with a firearm and what his intentions were.

The incident has raised serious security concerns, especially as it occurred inside a medical facility. Further investigation is underway, and police said more details will emerge once the probe progresses.
