Paradip Port starts 2026 on high note with record cargo handling

Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has created a new milestone by recording its highest cargo handling for the month of January, marking a strong start to the year 2026. The port handled 14.44 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo during January, surpassing the previous record of 14.32 MMT set in January 2024.

The achievement further strengthens Paradip Port’s standing among India’s leading major ports and highlights the steady expansion of its operational capacity. Officials attributed the improved performance to ongoing infrastructure upgrades, efficient operational planning, and better coordination among terminals and port stakeholders.

The growing cargo volumes also reflect the efficiency and commitment of the port workforce, which has consistently delivered strong results amid rising demand and increasing complexities in maritime trade operations.

Chairman of Paradip Port Authority, P. L. Haranadh, credited the milestone to the strategic guidance of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, and the collective efforts of officers, employees, contractual workers, and associated stakeholders.

He said the port will continue to focus on modernization, capacity expansion, and operational excellence to support India’s expanding trade and contribute to the country’s overall economic growth.
