Panic gripped Batagarh village under the Sanakhemundi block of Odisha’s Ganjam district after 13 goats and sheep were found dead in what is suspected to be an attack by some unknown animal.
Villagers discovered the carcasses early on Sunday morning and immediately raised an alarm, prompting officials to rush to the spot. The animals were found lying dead with visible injuries around the neck, raising concerns among residents.
Veterinary Team Conducts Inspection
Following the incident, a veterinary team, along with forensic personnel, arrived at the village to examine the scene. The carcasses were sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and the nature of the injuries.

According to preliminary findings, officials suspect that a wild animal may have been responsible for the attack. However, the species involved has not yet been confirmed.
Post-Mortem Report Awaited
Authorities said clarity on the incident will emerge after the post-mortem report is received. The report is expected to establish whether the neck injuries were caused by a predator and help identify the animal involved.
Meanwhile, villagers have expressed concern over the safety of their livestock and are awaiting swift action from authorities to prevent further attacks in the area.
