Proposed Steel Plant Expected To Boost District Economy

According to earlier reports, the Keonjhar mega-steel project is being set up as a joint venture between JSW Group and POSCO, with an initial capacity of 5 MTPA (million tonnes per annum).

The project aims to utilise Keonjhar’s large iron ore reserves and is expected to draw an estimated Rs 40,000 crore investment. It may produce hot-rolled, cold-rolled and galvanised steel, with potential expansion in the future. The plant is expected to generate major employment opportunities and enhance value addition to mineral resources within the district.
