Allotment scam: Now, lens on all govt housing schemes

Bhubaneswar: Already cornered by the Opposition for grave irregularities in allotment of plots/houses/flats under discretionary quota, the State government has decided to review all the housing schemes launched by developing agencies of the State since their inception.

Official sources said, apprehending irregularities even before the official announcement of such schemes way back in 1995, the State government wants to verify all the plot allotment and housing schemes of Bhubaneswar Development Authority, Cuttack Development Authority and State Housing Board.

Yesterday, the government warned of stringent action against persons who availed plots, houses and flats from development authorities and State Housing Board by producing fake affidavits and other misleading documents after 01.01.1995.

Though the government is yet to formally ask the Urban development department to do the verification job, sources said the department would check names of allottees against various housing and plotting schemes of the agencies.

“The aim is to check if any allotments have been made before the official announcement of schemes and such cases would fall under ‘double allotments’,” an official said adding that show cause notices would be sent to them mentioning why their plot/flats would not be cancelled.

In the absence of satisfactory replies, the concerned agency/authority would initiate action for cancellation of the same, he added.

Official sources said, about 78 persons have availed such houses/flats before the announcement of such schemes.
Besides, the Finance department would also audit the 3,776 plots/flats which have been transferred to third party.
