Anubhav Mohanty & Varsha Priyadarshini
The Orissa High Court on Friday rejected a petition filed by Ollywood actor Anubhav Mohanty seeking dismissal of a criminal case lodged against him by his ex-wife and actress Varsha Priyadarshini. The court held that the matter should proceed in accordance with the allegations and the outcome of the police investigation.
Case Origin And Allegations
The case stems from a complaint filed in 2020 by actress Varsha Priyadarshini, who is Anubhav Mohanty’s ex-wife. Varsha had approached Purighat Police Station in Cuttack, alleging that Anubhav Mohanty and his staff forcibly entered her room and recorded videos. She also alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment while she stayed at Anubhav Mohanty’s house.
In her complaint, Varsha had named two of Mohanty’s staff, Sujit Dalei and Khageswar Sahu, and alleged that they acted on the directions of Anubhav Mohanty. Following the registration of the FIR, the matter was taken up for hearing in a lower court.
Police Investigation And Chargesheet
After investigation, the police filed a chargesheet in November 2023 against Anubhav Mohanty and his associates, Sujit Dalei and Khageswar. The chargesheet was submitted based on the allegations made in the complaint and the findings of the investigation, officials said.
High Court Ruling
Anubhav Mohanty subsequently moved the Orissa High Court, seeking quashing of the proceedings. However, the High Court declined to intervene and dismissed his petition.
On Friday, the court clarified that the case would continue against Anubhav Mohanty and his associates in line with the allegations made by Varsha Priyadarshini and the charges framed by the police.
