One-Year-Old Among 2 New Covid-19 Positive Cases Detected In Jharsuguda

Bhubaneswar: Two more persons, including a one-year-old girl, tested positive for COVID-19 in Jharsuguda on Saturday, informed district Collector Saroj Kumar Samal.

The minor girl is from the same family of Mangal Bazar which is in home quarantine after returning from outside the State, the official said. On Friday, a five-year-old boy of the family had also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the district administration has declared the surrounding area of Mangal Bazar area as containment zone.

“A very small part of Mangal Bazar and the TMC at DAV School, Hill Top, Brajarajnagar are hereby declared as zones of containment. There may be a little inconvenience for few resident families of Mangal Bazar,” tweeted the district collector.

The collector further informed that the situation is under control and the health condition of the entire family is being monitored.

The second person who tested positive for the virus today is a 40-year-old male. He is a Maharashtra returnee and institutionally quarantined, informed Samal.

With this, the told number of positive cases in the district now stands at five of which two have already recovered.

Besides, five new COVID-19 cases were reported in Sundergarh on Friday. All the five persons have been lodged in quarantine centre after their return from Maharashtra, informed Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan.

COVID-19 Cases In Odisha

As per the State Health and Family Welfare Department (as on May 22, 12 PM), the total number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha now stands at 1189. While the active COVID-19 cases stand at 789, the death toll remains at seven. As many as 393 persons have recovered so far in the State.

Of the new cases, 46 samples were found COVID-19 positive from Jajpur, 11 cases were detected in Cuttack, six from Nayagarh, five from Ganjam, three cases each from Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Khurda and Puri, two from Bolangir and one from Sundergarh district.

As per the data shared by the Health department, 80 cases were detected from quarantine centres, one from containment zone while five others were local contacts.
