In an unfortunate and shocking incident, a youth allegedly consumed poison after his girlfriend refused to marry him at the Nandipada area in Keonjhar on Tuesday.

According to reports, the young man and woman had been in a relationship for the past three years. However, when the woman declined to go ahead with the marriage, tensions arose between the two. Following this, the woman lodged a complaint at the Nandipada police station.

In an effort to resolve the dispute, police called both families to the police station and initiated mediation talks. While the discussions were underway, the situation took a dramatic turn when the young man suddenly consumed poison inside the police station premises.

He was immediately rushed to Anandapur Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition has been reported as serious.

So far, no official reaction or detailed statement has been issued by the police regarding the incident.

Earlier last month, a young man from Kolathala village under Kuakhia police limits in Jajpur district allegedly took his own life when his long-time girlfriend refused to marry him after securing a government job.

The deceased, 24-year-old Chaturbhuj Das, consumed poison after learning that the girl no longer wished to pursue their relationship and marry him.
