Woman attempts self-immolation over family dispute, husband burnt while saving her Photograph: (OTV)
A family dispute took a tragic turn near Tamil Camp Square in Malkangiri district on Tuesday, leaving both a husband and wife with severe burn injuries.
According to sources, an argument broke out between the couple over an unspecified issue. In a moment of extreme distress, the wife, identified as Madhuri Kachim, allegedly poured kerosene on herself and attempted to set herself on fire. As her husband, Narendra Kachim, rushed forward to save her, he too sustained serious burn injuries.
Madhuri reportedly suffered around 70% burns, while Narendra is also stated to be in critical condition. Neighbours immediately intervened, rescuing the couple and shifting them to the Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital for urgent treatment.
Local police have launched an investigation into the incident.

"My brother suffered burn injuries while trying to douse the fire. He is in a serious condition now. He has suffered burn injuries in his hands and other parts of his body," said brother of Narendra Kachim.
"She was in a serious condition and was unconscious at the time of the arrival. Primary treatment has been provided to the woman and her husband. The woman has become a bit stable and conscious now. Following primary treatment, they have been shifted to the ward. Now, they will be provided treatment by the specialised doctors. The incident occurred due to family dispute," informed Dr Sambit Lenka.
