Odisha woman arrested in Hyderabad while smuggling ganja on train to Mumbai

Telangana Police on Friday arrested a woman from Odisha for allegedly smuggling ganja via train. The arrest was made while she was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Mumbai on the Konark Express.

The arrested accused has been identified as 37-year-old Mamata Digal, a resident of the Phulbani region in Odisha. Acting on allegations of ganja smuggling from Bhubaneswar to Mumbai by train, the EAGLE Force arrested the woman and seized contraband worth approximately Rs 8 lakh.

From Bhubaneswar To Mumbai

Based on credible information, the RNCC Railway EAGLE Force of Telangana conducted a check on the Konark Express at Begumpet Railway Station in Hyderabad. During the inspection, they apprehended the woman and recovered 16 kilograms of ganja valued at Rs 8 lakh from her possession.

According to police sources, Mamata Digal currently resides in Navi Mumbai, while her native home is in Phulbani, Odisha. She was seen moving suspiciously with two trolley bags, which raised the suspicion of the police. Upon checking the suitcases, officials recovered nine packets of ganja that had been concealed inside.

During interrogation, Mamata Digal reportedly confessed that she was transporting ganja from Bhubaneswar to Mumbai. She revealed that a Mumbai-based drug dealer named Ashok had promised to pay her Rs 10,000 per suitcase for the delivery.

As per Ashok’s instructions, she travelled to Bhubaneswar, where an unidentified person handed over the suitcases to her just before she boarded the Konark Express.

While Mamata Digal has been arrested, the main accused, Ashok, is currently absconding. Police have launched a search operation to trace and arrest him.
