Residents of several villages in the Kaptipada forest area of Mayurbhanj district are gripped by fear following reports of a leopard roaming between villages and attacking cattle. Panic escalated on Tuesday when the blood-soaked carcass of a cow was discovered outside a cowshed in Hudisahi, triggering widespread concern among locals.
Fresh Killings Spark Alarm
Villagers claim the cow was attacked and killed by a leopard, pointing to multiple incidents of cattle deaths in recent days. Several large pugmarks have also been found at multiple locations in the village. Locals strongly suspect these to be the pugmarks of the same leopard, deepening the sense of unease.
Forest Department Yet to Respond
Despite rising fear and speculation, the Forest Department has not issued any official statement or confirmation on the leopard’s presence in the area. Residents say they are remaining indoors after dark and keeping their livestock secured, fearing further attacks.
The villagers are reportedly awaiting immediate action and guidance from wildlife authorities to safeguard themselves and protect their livestock from further attacks.
