OdishaVigilance on Thursday apprehended a Revenue Inspector of Kakhadi Circle under Sadar Tahasil in Cuttack district while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for submitting a favourable report in a mutation case and for issuance of the Record of Rights (ROR or patta).
The accused has been identified as Janaki Ranjan Mallik, who was serving as Revenue Inspector (RI) at Kakhadi Circle.
According to Vigilance officials, the complainant, a land owner, had applied online for mutation of his land. Mallik had fixed the date of hearing of the mutation case for January 27, 2026, and asked the complainant to report to his office on January 20, 2026.
Bribe Demand Reported To Vigilance
As per reports, when the land owner met the RI on January 20, Mallik allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to submit a favourable report in the mutation case. The complainant expressed his inability to pay the amount, but Mallik reportedly insisted on the bribe. Left with no alternative, the land owner approached the Odisha Vigilance authorities and lodged a complaint.
Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and apprehended Mallik in his office while he was allegedly accepting the bribe amount. The entire tainted bribe money was recovered from his possession and seized in the presence of witnesses.
Searches And Case Registration
Following the successful trap, Odisha Vigilance launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Mallik to ascertain any disproportionate assets held by him. These searches were underway at the time of reporting.
In connection with the incident, Cuttack Vigilance Police Station Case No. 3/2026 has been registered against Janaki Ranjan Mallik under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Vigilance officials said the investigation is in progress and further details will emerge as the probe continues.
