Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Basudev Bhoi, Senior Revenue Assistant in the office of the Settlement Officer, Major Settlement, Sambalpur, in connection with a disproportionate assets case. He is scheduled to be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur, later in the day.

As per reports, the arrest followed extensive searches conducted by Vigilance officials at properties linked to Bhoi. During the operation, he was found to be in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, which he reportedly failed to explain satisfactorily.

According to Vigilance sources, the assets unearthed include one multi-storeyed building in Bargarh town, another building in Sambalpur town, 16 valuable plots of land, and one four-wheeler, among other properties. The scale and nature of the assets raised suspicion of accumulation beyond legitimate earnings during his tenure as a public servant.

Case Registered Under Vigilance Laws

In connection with the matter, a case has been registered against Basudev Bhoi at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station. The case has been numbered Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No. 26/2025. The registration of the case follows preliminary verification and search operations carried out by the Vigilance department.

Investigation Continuing

Vigilance officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and further examination of financial records, property documents, and related evidence is underway. The agency is expected to ascertain the sources of funding for the assets and identify any additional irregularities linked to the case, as sources said.
