Odisha turns key hub in interstate drug trafficking network; ED conducts raids across 7 states, Rs 3 crore cash seized

Odisha has reportedly emerged as a major hub in the country’s drug trafficking network, with links extending from Goa to several other states, raising serious concerns among law enforcement agencies. Highly priced narcotic substances are being smuggled through well-organised routes, indicating the growing reach of interstate drug syndicates.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently conducted large-scale raids at 26 locations across seven states, including Odisha. During the searches, officials seized cash amounting to nearly Rs 3 crore along with a substantial quantity of narcotic substances. Several important documents and digital records were also recovered.

The raids were carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into a money laundering case linked to the drug trade. According to sources, the probe has unearthed alarming details about the financial networks, properties and shell entities allegedly used by drug mafias to launder illicit proceeds.

Investigating agencies are now working to identify and arrest those involved in the racket and to attach illegally acquired assets under relevant provisions of the law.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar airport has reportedly emerged as a key transit point for drug traffickers. While narcotics are being transported to various destinations, the airport is increasingly being used as a crucial passage in smuggling operations.

Officials said surveillance at sensitive locations has been intensified and coordination with multiple agencies has been strengthened to curb the growing menace. The ongoing crackdown aims to dismantle the entire trafficking network and prevent Odisha from becoming a safe corridor for drug smuggling activities.
