A woman was brutally gangraped in front of her child in Odisha’s Keonjhar district after being lured on the pretext of giving lift. The shocking incident reported from the Joda area has left the entire area in shock.

 According to reports, the victim had gone to Bhagalpur village under Joda police limits on February 20, 2026, to attend a festival. At around 9 PM, while she was returning home with her child, one of the accused, identified as 34-year-old Basudev Gagarai, allegedly offered to drop her home and forced both the woman and her child into his vehicle.

Waylaid On The Pretext Of Lift

 Instead of taking her home, the accused drove towards the Gobardhanpur road and stopped the vehicle near a Mahua tree along the roadside. There, he allegedly sexually assaulted the woman despite her resistance.

Soon after, another accused, 44-year-old Suklal Munda, joined him and the two brutally gang-raped the woman in front of her child before threatening and intimidating the victim.

Injury Leads To Police Complaint

During the heinous crime, one of the accused had bitten the victim on her cheek, leaving a deep injury. When her husband repeatedly asked about the wound, the victim eventually revealed the entire incident to him.

 Following this, the couple approached Joda police station and lodged a complaint. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested both accused, Basudev Gagarai and Suklal Munda. They have been produced before the court.

 Police officials said further investigation into the case is underway.
