Odisha sees sharp rise in paddy procurement, doubles last year’s pace

With a sharp increase in farmer registrations, expanded acreage coverage, and a substantial rise in token issuance and paddy purchase, the state’s procurement drive has gained strong momentum.

Paddy procurement in Odisha picked up pace this season, registering nearly double the progress compared to the same period last year. With a sharp increase in farmer registrations, expanded acreage coverage, and a substantial rise in token issuance and paddy purchase, the state’s procurement drive has gained strong momentum.

Odisha Food Supplies Minister, Krushna Chandra Patra, shared the updated figures, underscoring the government’s efforts to ensure smooth and timely procurement across all districts while urging farmers not to fall prey to misinformation.

In terms of quantity, the state has procured around five lakh metric tonnes of paddy so far, a sharp rise from three lakh metric tonnes collected by this time last year, reflecting faster operations and wider farmer participation.

Surge in Farmer Registration and Token Issuance

“Last year, 17.5 lakh farmers had registered, while this year the number has risen to 19.68 lakh. In terms of area coverage, registrations were made for 58 lakh acres last year, which has increased to 61.67 lakh acres this year. If we look at the figures up to December last year, 4.07 lakh tokens had been issued. This year, the number of tokens issued has gone up to 9.41 lakh, almost double. Similarly, paddy procurement stood at 3 lakh metric tonnes by December last year, whereas it has increased to 5 lakh metric tonnes as of December 24, 2025,” said Minister Krushna Chandra Patra.

District-wise Procurement Highlights

Western Odisha continues to lead in procurement volumes. Bargarh district alone has recorded procurement of 1,80,785 metric tonnes of paddy. Sambalpur has lifted 1,34,718 metric tonnes, while Kalahandi has recorded procurement of 90,000 metric tonnes. In Nuapada, around 57,000 metric tonnes of paddy have already been procured.

Smooth Operations and Minister’s Appeal

The minister assured that paddy procurement is progressing smoothly in all districts without disruption. He appealed to farmers not to believe in misleading or incorrect information circulating about procurement and urged them to rely only on verified official updates.
