Odisha Revenue Inspector apprehended by Vigilance while accepting Rs 5,000 bribe

A Revenue Inspector posted in Kendrapara district was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance on Friday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for submitting a favourable report in a mutation case.

The accused has been identified as Pradyumna Keshari Behura, Revenue Inspector of Kedargarh Circle under Rajnagar Tahasil in Kendrapara district.

According to Vigilance officials, Behura had allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from a landowner for furnishing a favourable report in connection with an online mutation application filed for inheritance updation.

Sources said the landowner, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the Vigilance authorities and lodged a complaint. Acting on the allegation, a trap was laid on February 27. The Vigilance team reportedly caught Behura red-handed while he was accepting the bribe amount in front of the Tahasil office at Rajnagar.

Officials said the entire tainted bribe money of Rs 5,000 was recovered and seized from his possession.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched at two locations linked to the accused to ascertain whether he had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

In this connection, a case has been registered at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway.
