Bhubaneswar: In a rarest of the rare scenarios, the single-day recoveries have outnumbered new novel coronavirus (n-CoV) cases for a second consecutive day. As many as 79 COVID patients have recovered and are being discharged, informed the Health & Family Welfare department today. This exceeds the total number of new cases (74) reported this morning. A similar picture was seen on Tuesday when 84 patients recovered against 79 new cases.

Of the 79 new recoveries, 28 are from Bhadrak, 17 from Balasore, 11 from Ganjam, 5 from Jajpur, 7 from Puri, 4 from Cuttack, 3 from Keonjhar, 2 from Khurda and 2 from Bolangir.

With this, the total recovered cases of Odisha have jumped to 812, taking the cure rate in the State to as high as 50.97 per cent.

Interestingly, the total active count in Odisha has come down to 774, and is now less than the total number of recoveries. The State's fatalities stand at 7.

Even though Ganjam accounts for 23.1% of the total cases in Odisha, the recovery rate in the district stands at 76.9%, far ahead of other COVID hotbeds.

If current active cases are taken into consideration, Jajpur tops the COVID chart with 116 active positives (total 242), Ganjam is next with 82 active cases (total 368), followed by Cuttack 71 (total 86), Puri 60 (total 85) and Bolangir 50 active cases (total 54).

As far as India's situation is concerned, the recovery rate is steadily improving while the fatality rate too has gradually declined.
