According to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as many as 16 locations in Odisha recorded minimum temperatures below 15°C.

These include Phulbani (11°C), Jharsuguda (11.6°C), Kirei (12.2°C), Semiliguda and Rourkela (12.5°C each), Angul (12.6°C), Bhawanipatna (12°C), Dhenkanal (13.5°C), Keonjhar (13.8°C), Koraput (14.2°C), Bolangir (14.5°C), Sundargarh (14°C), Bhubaneswar (14.8°C), and Sonepur (14.9°C).

The IMD noted that minimum temperatures are likely to drop by another 2–3°C over the next 2–3 days, particularly in the interior and western districts, before stabilising later in the week.

Dry Weather Persists Over Odisha

The IMD added that the cooling trend is being driven by dry northerly winds sweeping into Odisha as winter sets in. “Dry weather continues across the state with no significant synoptic system currently influencing the skies,” the IMD report said, adding that clear nights and low humidity are allowing rapid heat loss from the surface.

No rainfall has been reported anywhere in Odisha, and northern winds from the plains of North India are expected to reinforce the chill in the coming days.

National Weather Sees Cold Intensifying

Across India, the IMD has issued rainfall and cold wave warnings for several northern and central states.

Western disturbances are forecast to bring rain and snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, which in turn will drive cold winds into Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, leading to a sharp dip in night temperatures.
