In a shocking incident at Kisinda Police Station, a constable was suspended for allegedly verbally abusing a husband and wife and subjecting the husband to ‘third-degree’ interrogation. The accused constable has been identified as Baidyanath Behera.
The incident has raised serious concerns about police conduct and accountability in Sambalpur district.
According to reports, Ramesh Mukhi and his wife Rita Mukhi, residents of Mahakud village, had approached the Kisinda Police Station to register a complaint regarding a family dispute. While the couple sought police assistance in accordance with the law, the constable on duty reportedly refused to accept their complaint.

Instead of following due procedure, Baidyanath allegedly abused both the husband and wife verbally and subjected Ramesh Mukhi to harsh interrogation, described as a ‘third-degree’ method, inside the station premises.
Following the incident, the couple reached out to higher authorities by tweeting the matter to the Director General of Police and the Home Department, seeking justice. In response, the Sambalpur Superintendent of Police (SP) ordered the immediate suspension of the constable involved in the case, pending further investigation.
The couple has emphasised that their sole intention was to seek justice and proper handling of their complaint. The incident has once again highlighted the importance of ensuring accountability and professionalism among law enforcement personnel.
Local authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against any misconduct, and the matter is under detailed investigation.
