In a major success under the ongoing anti-crime drive, Koraput Police arrested a veteran ganja mafia and four associates, seizing 350 kilograms of ganja and two pistols. The operation, led by SI Surendra Kumar Sethi of Padwa Police Station, took place on October 14, 2025, after intelligence indicated illegal transport of ganja in a Mahindra Bolero (OR-10-H-0837) vehicle from Dokanput to Pottangi.
High-Speed Chase and Arrest
A check-post was set up at Mali Sublar Chhak, but the suspects tried to flee towards Arlaput, resulting in a brief chase. Police intercepted the vehicle, and despite one accused pointing a pistol, the team overpowered all five without casualties.
The arrested accused include Lal Bahadur Darjee (34), Trinath Khara (30), Suresh Bisoi (22), Sanjaya Khara (19), and Jogesh Khara (20).

Seizures and Criminal Background
The police recovered 350 kg of ganja, two pistols (one marked “AUTO DISTAL MADE IN USA” and another gold-colored), the vehicle used for transport, multiple mobile phones, IDs, and cash.
Prime accused Lal Bahadur Darjee is a notorious offender with over 20 criminal cases, including those under the NDPS Act, POCSO Act, and extortion. A police team has been dispatched to Bihar to trace interstate linkages.
Anti-Crime Drive In Koraput
As a part of the major crackdown on criminals, Hrudananda Nayak @ Prince (35) was booked under the National Security Act (NSA) for involvement in 17 serious cases, including extortion, NDPS violations, and dacoity across Jeypore, Boriguma, and Nabarangpur.
