The Odisha Legislative Assembly is scheduled to take up a government Bill today proposing increases in salary, allowances and pension for sitting and former legislators.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling is listed to introduce the legislation during the day’s proceedings, according to information placed before the House.

Bill To Cover Multiple Categories

Sources reported that the proposal sets out higher financial entitlements for MLAs, Ministers, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker and former legislators.

The draft mentions revision of salary components for serving members and enhanced allowances linked to official roles. It also includes higher pension provisions for former MLAs. 

Assembly listings show that the item concerns salary, allowance and pension for all the above categories and is among the principal government business scheduled for presentation.

Higher Salary, Allowance And Pension

Reports also indicate that the increases relate to monthly salary and other admissible allowances. The plan also extends pension revision to former legislators, forming part of a wider package covering those who are no longer in office.

The proposal states that MLAs, ministers and presiding officers would be covered under the same Bill, with provisions specifying enhanced financial support. The Assembly agenda notes that the introduction will be carried out by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister during today’s session.

Separate Resolution On ‘Vande Mataram’

Alongside the bill, the Assembly is also scheduled to take up a separate resolution connected to the national song ‘Vande Mataram’. The matter has been listed for discussion, and members are expected to address it when the item is reached in the order of business.
