The gang rape case involving an Odia medical student in Durgapur, West Bengal, was transferred to the Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court. The case drew attention due to the nature of the offence.

According to reports, Durgapur Police submitted the charge sheet within 20 days of the incident. The submission was based on collected evidence and witness statements. On Thursday, the court rejected the bail applications of two accused persons. The judge dismissed their plea, citing their alleged involvement in the case. Both individuals were scheduled to face trial under the charges filed by the police.

The trial proceedings were set to begin on Saturday in the ADJ Court. The public prosecutor informed reporters that the government aimed to complete the trial within two months. He stated that the objective was to ensure appropriate punishment for those found guilty. He also confirmed that Durgapur Police had submitted all necessary evidence and documentation to support the prosecution’s case.

The case continued to be monitored by legal authorities, with further proceedings expected to follow the scheduled timeline.

A second-year medical student from Odisha was allegedly gang-raped near a private medical college in Durgapur, located in Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal.
