In a shocking incident, a man from Odisha’s Balasore district allegedly sold his two-and-a-half-year-old son for Rs 1 lakh. The serious allegations have surfaced from Nilagiri area of the district.

The accused has been identified as Rakesh Behera. The accused reportedly admitted in a video that he had sold his son to a doctor for Rs1 lakh. 

Following a complaint lodged by a local youth at Nilagiri police station, police launched an investigation into the matter.

Subsequently, the child was brought back from West Bengal in a vehicle and left in Nilagiri. According to the complaint, Rakesh Behera had allegedly sold the child to a doctor in West Bengal through a middleman. While the deal was reportedly fixed at Rs 1 lakh, the father is said to have received Rs 50,000 as advance payment.

However, the alleged middleman has denied the accusations. Meanwhile, police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the case.

Authorities are currently investigating where the child had been kept and under whose instructions he was transported back to Nilagiri.

"I don't know the name of the doctor. The mediator knows his name. I have four children. I am not able to take care of them as we are poor people," said Rakesh Behera, father of the toddler.
