Three people lost their lives, and one was critically injured after a truck reportedly hit a bike from behind near the Malpura overbridge on National Highway 53 under Kamakhyanagar Police Station this morning.

Three people lost their lives, and one was critically injured after a truck reportedly hit a bike from behind near the Malpura overbridge on National Highway 53 under Kamakhyanagar Police Station in Dhenkanal district this morning.

The victims have not yet been identified.

Eyewitnesses reported that a man and his two daughters were among the victims who died on the spot. The mother was rushed to Kamakhyanagar Medical in a critical condition.

According to witnesses, four people were riding a bike from the Bhuban area towards Kamakhyanagar when the truck struck them from behind. The collision was so forceful that the truck reportedly carried the bike nearly 150 metres along the main road before coming to a halt.

Jitendra Behera, an eyewitness, said, “Four people were travelling on a bike when a truck rammed into them from behind. The man and his two daughters died on the spot, while the mother was critically injured. The impact was so severe that the truck dragged the bike for nearly 150 metres along the road.”

Truck flees scene

Following the impact, the truck fled the spot. Police arrived shortly after the accident, recovered the bodies, and began a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities were working to identify the deceased.

Kamakhyanagar SDPO said, “Three people, including a man and his two daughters, died after a vehicle hit them from behind, while the mother sustained critical injuries and was shifted to Dhenkanal medical. The identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed.’

Investigation underway

The Kamakhyanagar police appealed to members of the public with any information about the truck or the accident to come forward. Investigators were examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning local residents to trace the vehicle involved in the incident.

Police officials have confirmed that legal action will be taken against the driver once identified.
