Odisha lady agriculture Officer found dead after sending daughter to school

In a shocking incident, a lady agriculture officer of Basudevpur block in Odisha’s Bhadrak district was found hanging inside her rented house, raising suspicion of suicide. Her body was found hanging inside her rented house, sources said.

The deceased has been identified as Niharika Dalai, posted as Block Agriculture Officer in Basudevpur block for the past two years. Her husband works as a software engineer in Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, Niharika was living in a rented house with her 7-year-old daughter. She was on leave for the last 7 days. She did not go to the office. Today, as usual, she dropped her daughter off to school and reportedly locked herself in the room before taking the extreme step.

Niharika's husband, who works as a software engineer in Bhubaneswar, called the owner of the rented house after Niharika did not pick up his phone. On opening the door, the house owner found her hanging inside a room and immediately alerted the police.

When the police came and opened the door, Niharika's body was found hanging. No information was found about why she committed suicide. The body was seized and sent for autopsy while police are yet to ascertain the reason for her suspected suicide.
