‘Odisha Janata Congress or Odisha Lok Congress’: Expelled Congress leader Mohammed Moquim signals formation of Odisha-centric party

Expelled Congress leader Mohammed Moquim on Tuesday indicated that he is in the process of forming a new political party in Odisha, stating that discussions and preparations have reached a decisive stage.

Addressing the media, Moquim said the proposed political outfit is likely to be named either Odisha Janata Congress or Odisha Lok Congress. He added that efforts are underway to give the initiative a concrete shape and asserted that the party would be Odisha-centric, committed to working in the interest of the people of the state.

“Preparations are ongoing, and we are meeting leaders and people from various sections of society. The process has reached a crucial phase,” Moquim said. He added that the new party would focus on issues specific to Odisha and the concerns of the Odia people.

As part of the mobilisation drive, Moquim announced that a women’s convention will be held on January 30, followed by a farmers’ convention on February 5. He said key issues affecting women, farmers, and other sections of society would be discussed during these meetings.

Moquim further stated that once the party is formally launched, it would begin preparations, keeping the upcoming municipal and panchayat elections in mind.

Responding to queries regarding the presence of Sofia Firdous at various programmes, Moquim clarified that she has been attending the events in her capacity as a trustee of the Moquim Foundation.
