Amid the ongoing war situation in the Middle East, the Odishagovernment on Tuesday convened a high-level meeting to review the safety and well-being of Non-Resident Odias (NROs) residing in the region.

The meeting was held at the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg. CM Mohan Majhi directed senior officials to undertake necessary preparations and initiate appropriate measures to safeguard Odias living abroad. Stressing the need for heightened vigilance, the Chief Secretary advised all concerned departments to remain prepared and ensure timely action in view of the evolving geopolitical situation.

Helpline Numbers Issued 

To facilitate assistance for those affected, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, has issued a 24-hour toll-free helpline number, 80046342, along with a WhatsApp helpline number, +971543090571. In addition, the Odisha government has released a dedicated contact number of the Odisha Parivar Independent Nodal Officer: 9583321964.

Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj shared details of the government’s initiatives through a post on the social media platform X. He informed that a working group has been constituted jointly by the Directorate of Odisha Parivar, the State Home Department, the State Labour Directorate, and organisations working for the welfare of Non-Resident Indians to coordinate assistance and disseminate information.

In his post, the Minister stated that keeping in view the wartime emergency situation in the Middle East, the state government has formed a joint working group to provide support and ensure timely communication. He urged individuals in the affected areas to contact the designated helpline numbers in case of any adverse situation.

The Odisha government has stated that it is closely monitoring developments and remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Odias residing in the Middle East.
