Odisha hikes PG stipend up to Rs 55,000 for govt Ayurveda, Homoeopathy college students; effective from Jan 2026

The Odisha government has approved a substantial increase in stipends for postgraduate (PG) students studying in government-run Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medical colleges across the state.

The revised stipend structure will come into effect from January 1, 2026, following a decision taken by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

According to the decision cleared by the Chief Minister’s Office, the stipend for first-year postgraduate students has been raised from Rs 31,000 to Rs 48,000 per month.

Meanwhile, second-year PG students will now receive Rs 52,000 per month instead of Rs 32,000, while third-year students will get Rs 55,000 per month, up from the existing Rs 33,000.

Detailed Year-Wise Revision

Officials said the revision translates into a 55 percent increase for first-year PG students, a 62 percent increase for second-year students, and a 67 percent hike for those in the third year. The enhanced stipend will apply uniformly to students enrolled in both Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic postgraduate programmes under the state government.

The decision is expected to benefit around 120 postgraduate students currently pursuing higher studies in government Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medical colleges in Odisha.

House Surgeon Stipend Also Raised

In addition to PG students, the Odisha government has also approved a significant increase in stipends for house surgeons serving in government Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medical colleges. Their monthly stipend has been increased from Rs 17,000 to Rs 30,000.

Unlike the PG stipend revision, the enhanced stipend for house surgeons will be implemented retrospectively from August 1 of the current year, officials said.

The stipend revision was approved at the level of the Chief Minister’s Office and will be implemented by the concerned departments in accordance with existing financial and administrative procedures.
