The action follows a strong warning issued by Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik, who said the state government would show no leniency towards those involved in illegal cattle trade.

‘No Tolerance for Cow Mafia’

Speaking on Sunday, Minister Mallik asserted that there would be “no tolerance for the cattle mafia” and said strict action was already underway against those involved in illegal cattle transportation. He said the government had begun seizing properties linked to cattle smugglers, adding that more stringent measures would follow as investigations progressed.

The Minister said the government would no longer spare anyone, regardless of their influence or background. He alleged that cattle smugglers had earlier operated under the protection of certain politicians and administrative officers, but stressed that such patronage would no longer be tolerated.

According to Mallik, the ongoing operations mark a clear shift in the Odisha government’s approach towards dismantling organised cattle smuggling networks across the state.

Minister Warns of Continued Action

Issuing a stern warning to those involved in the illegal trade, the minister urged smugglers to reform themselves before the situation worsens. He said the government is committed to taking tougher action in the coming days and made it clear that anyone found associated with cattle smuggling would face strict legal consequences.

“Strict action has been taken against cattle smugglers. Around five locations were raided, and large amounts of assets belonging to those involved were seized. This operation will continue, and strict action will be taken against everyone associated with this network. All their properties will be seized. No one will be spared,” Mallik said.

He added, “I urge everyone to change their ways while there is still time. Under the BJP government, such acts will not be tolerated. Police have been instructed to act firmly and with high security at smuggling points. We will ensure the harshest punishment for those found involved.”
