The Odisha government has approved a special grant of Rs 1 crore for the construction of a new Brahmataladhwaja chariot in Kendrapara district for this year’s Rath Yatra. Thanking the State government for the financial assistance, BJP National Vice-President and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda expressed gratitude for the timely decision.

For the past few years, the 14 wheels of the existing chariot had been in poor condition, causing repeated disruptions during the annual festival. As a result, the chariot often failed to reach the Mausima Temple on schedule, sometimes arriving one or two days late.
Similar issues were observed during the Bahuda Yatra as well. These operational difficulties had led to growing dissatisfaction among devotees and residents of the district.
Taking the situation seriously and aiming to streamline the Rath Yatra process, the State government has now sanctioned the special grant for constructing a new Brahmataladhwaja chariot.
Worth mentioning, Kendrapara district’s historic Lord Baladevjew Temple is all set for a significant makeover, with the Odisha government accelerating plans for a comprehensive Parikrama Project around the shrine. A high-level review meeting was previously held on November 16 last year to finalise the project’s blueprint.
Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan had chaired the review meeting, which was attended by the Kendrapara MP, District Collector, Sub-Collector, Endowment Commissioner, and several other senior officials.
Discussions had centred on the detailed layout of the Parikrama Project, including beautification works and essential infrastructural upgrades. The Law Minister had stated that all necessary arrangements would be implemented to enhance the temple’s surroundings and improve the pilgrim experience.
“The project cost will be finalised once the DPR is completed. However, the estimated value is expected to be around Rs 100 crore. We are hopeful that work will begin within this financial year,” the Law Minister had said.
