In a significant move aimed at broadening opportunities for aspiring teachers and strengthening inclusive education, the Odisha Government has extended eligibility for the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) under Category II to candidates who have completed a two-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course in Special Education.
According to the latest decision of the State Government, candidates holding a 2-year B Ed (Special Education) qualification will now be permitted to appear for OTET Category–II. This marks a major expansion of eligibility criteria, as earlier, only those who had completed a one-year B.Ed (Special Education) course were considered eligible for the examination.
As per sources, the decision has been taken in line with evolving teacher education norms and to ensure a larger pool of trained and qualified teachers, particularly in the field of special education. The move is also expected to address the growing demand for educators trained to work with children with special needs.
