The Odisha Government on Thursday issued a stern warning to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) responsible for stitching school uniforms, stating that any group causing undue delay may get its contract cancelled. The announcement was made by the School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, following complaints from several districts about slow uniform distribution. The move aims to ensure that all schoolchildren across the state receive their uniforms on time ahead of the academic schedule.

Department in Talks with Officials

The Minister added that departmental officials have been directed to identify the reasons behind delays in specific areas. Discussions have already taken place to speed up the process and ensure no student is left without a uniform in the coming days.

"We were unable to distribute uniforms in several places because we provided them to SHG members. We have successfully supplied the uniforms in several districts. I was discussing this with the department officials about how to complete this task as soon as possible. We will take different steps, make arrangements, and try to provide the uniforms to students. As far as I know, those SHG groups are not distributing the dresses; we will cancel them and try to provide them through the SMC committee,” said Nityananda Gond, School and Mass Education Minister of Odisha.

Warning Issued to Non-Performing SHGs

In a strong message, Gond stated that SHGs responsible for the delay will face strict action. “If required, we will cancel the Self-Help Groups causing consistent delay,” he said.

SHGs play a key role in the state’s school uniform programme, which aims to empower local women’s groups while ensuring the timely delivery of uniforms.
